DIY Wine Holder
For a long time I was looking for a good wine holder, but kept finding ones I loved to be very over-priced. So, I decided to create my own. Below is the step-by-step process on how I made these - all for under $10!
MATERIALS NEEDED
1. Wine bottles
2. Faux Leather (or real)
3. Grommet Kit
4. Wall Anchors
5. Permanent Marker
6. Level
STEPS
1. Cut your leather straps to whatever thickness and length you want. I did mine to: 1.5” wide x 17” long (for the longer strap) and 9” long (for the shorter strap). Just make sure they stay consistent for each bottle.
2. Once all the straps are cut, follow the instructions on the grommet kit package to place your grommets. I measured all of the grommet’s center to be about .75” away from the edge. Helpful hint: put a grommet on one of one of the straps, line up all the other straps and just trace the placement so they’re all the consistent.
3. If you’re hanging these onto a drywall, pick the height of your top-most wine holder and hammer in the anchor. Fold the leather strap in half so the grommets are matching up and put the screw through both grommets and screw everything into the anchor.
4. Once you have one strap in the wall, have someone help you hold a wine bottle in it, and use a level to straighten out the bottle so you can measure where the smaller strap should go. Mark a dot on the wall, and repeat step 3 with the smaller strap.
5. To get my silver screws and bronze grommets to blend in with the leather, I just colored them with a black permanent marker. Another tip: Before hammering in the anchor for the next strap, put a bottle in the finished piece that will sit above. You’ll notice it will sit a lot higher than you think.
